we announced yesterday that schmidt hammer lassen architects were among the three shortlisted firms
to design the new international criminal court in the hague. however we didn’t show you the designs by
the other two finalists ingenhoven architects and wiel arets architects & associates who will also move
into the final round of judging.
ingenhoven architects submitted a very transparent design which featured three separate buildings
linked by an overhead glass canopy. their design aimed to not be overly defensive 'security-architecture'
but rather an expression of fairness.
the proposal by wiel arets architects & associates features a long and low main structure that is dotted
with four gem like towers to denote the courtrooms. these faceted peaks are accompanied by other
protrusions that surround small courtyards throughout the building.

loren schwerd is a sculptor based in baton rouge, louisiana. her work explores free-standing sculpture,
installation art and wearable art. her series ‘love seat’ began when she stumbled upon a collection of old
chairs in a dumpster. she explored themes of relationships with these chairs by altering them with leather,
hide, hair and sinew. each piece features two or more chairs connected together using the different
materials. these suggestive alterations lend the chairs their own personality and experience.

some of the pieces will be issued in a limited edition silver, which uses a specially designed paint that was
originally invented for the auto industry. the paint is thermoformable and has a high impact resistance.
‘the hero piece’ is the key bag in the line and was formed using a mould of a human ribcage and sternum
on the front and spine on the back. other pieces in the collection apply animal patterns like crocodile to
the bags skin using laser cutting technology.

an arm-hole opening of a sweatshirt allows one to wear the bag on this shoulder

a handbag is sewn in a way that creates multiple smaller pockets which also add to the aesthetic of the piece
